Frequently Asked Questions

First of all, why Capaz?

capaz [kaˈpaz ] adjective. able, capable.

When I first sought out counseling, I hoped therapy would help me fix what was wrong with me. Through my healing journey & professional training I found a more effective starting place. No one needs fixing; we need healing & the tools it takes to begin.

Healing happens when you feel seen, heard, validated & accepted. All of you. Relationships may hurt us, but building safe ones with ourselves and others help us access our innate ability to experience powerful healing and joy. You deserve to go slow as you reconnect with yourself and your world. I will meet you where you are.

Every therapy modality I use involves learning how to slow down & get curious about our whole selves - both mind & body. When we begin to approach life with curiosity & compassion, we can build trust in ourselves & others.

What’s the investment?

Therapy is a big investment, and it can be a hard one to make. It takes time, commitment, trust, and money. If you want to talk about barriers, I’m here for it!

Private pay:

Individuals: $200 per intake and $150 per 50 minute therapy session. Reach out if you are in need of a reduced fee.

Couples: $200 per intake and $200 per 50 minute session. $220 per 80 minute session.

SE Individual Sessions: $125 for individual sessions, $100 for scholarship students. BIPOC SE students receive pro bono sessions.

Clinical Supervision: $125 per hour of clinical supervision.

Accepted insurances & grants:

I am only in network with Aetna in Missouri at this time. Otherwise, I am considered an out of network provider and accept private pay.

When I accept your insurance, the insurance company requires me to provide a diagnosis. One of the benefits to private pay is your medical record maintains privacy and a diagnosis is not necessary. Insurance companies can also dictate the frequency and duration of treatment. Private pay allows for more flexibility in meeting your treatment needs.

* I can provide a monthly Superbill that you can submit if you have out of network benefits.

I provide free in-school therapy for uninsured USD 500 high school students. Feel free to contact me if you or your family member may be eligible.

What is a sliding scale?

A capitalist system determines our financial access and value by race, perceived gender identity, disability/ability, immigration status, and/or primary language among many other systems of imposed hierarchy. There is no exact formula that determines what each of us can afford, because income is not the only determining factor. For example, your relationship to money might also be affected by being a caregiver, your access to generational wealth, and/or costs related to a disability.

A sliding scale is used to encourage people to pay according to their available resources. Those with greater financial privilege contribute more, allowing those with less access, to pay according to their means. This allows the business to sustain its services while making accessibility as broad as possible.

Whether your are a current client or a prospective one, you are always welcome to bring up your financial needs and discuss rates.

How to get reimbursed even if I don’t take your insurance:

I am considered an Out of Network (OON) Provider, meaning I can provide you a Superbill, or a receipt of payments. Depending on your out of network benefits, you may be able to submit this to your insurance company for direct reimbursement. Contact your insurance provider to learn about your eligibility.

You can ask, “Does my insurance plan accept out of network providers? What are my out of network mental health benefits?”

Accessibility

My in-person office above Blip Roasters is unfortunately not ADA accessible. The downstairs of Blip is ADA accessible from the parking lot entrance and there is a conference room on the lower level I would be happy to meet in at your request. I also offer virtual sessions if preferred.

There are gender neutral restrooms at Blip and a private bathroom located in my office.

I am vaccinated with the most recent COVID-19 booster. If you need to mask in session and would like me to mask as well, please let me know. Your safety and comfort are very important to me.
