Meet Katie
Katie Jones, LCSW, LSCSW, SEP, RYT
Background.
I am from Kansas City, the juncture of the Missouri & Kansas rivers & land of the Osage, Delaware, Kaw, Wyandot, Missouria, Kansa, & Shawnee people. However, I first began my social work career in immigrant & refugee services as a case manager & shelter operations coordinator in Austin, TX. I also supervised teen volunteers in small communities throughout Costa Rica & The Dominican Republic.
I moved back to KC in 2012 & continued working with refugees & ESOL students before pursuing my MSW.
During grad school at KU, I worked as a bilingual therapist with adults & teens specializing in trauma, immigration & sexual assault.
I worked for 3 years as an alternative high school social worker before starting Capaz in 2020.
Professional Work.
In addition to private practice services, I work in public high schools to serve uninsured students.
I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner & Individual Session Provider for SE students at the beginning level. I continue to learn more (forever lol) about healing developmental trauma through a somatic lens, including co-regulating touchwork.
I have also gone through extensive training in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) & Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
All of these modalities include my passion for mindfulness & embodiment. Learn more about all this on my Individual Therapy page under Offerings!
Community Work.
Doing my part to promote my community’s wellbeing & equity is important to me. Currently, I volunteer with Advocates for Immigrant Rights & Reconciliation (AIRR) and Sunrise Movement KC.
Additionally, I enjoy teaching trauma-informed yoga with small groups, agencies & individuals. I love providing trainings & workshops as well.
Reach out if you’re interested in providing yoga, mindfulness, or trauma-focused trainings to your staff or team.
In my free time, I love being outside and in my garden, dancing, music, singing karaoke (mostly in my living room), reading books, eating snacks & chilling with family and chosen family.
