Join me for Sunrise Movement KC’s Climate Grief Gathering on Sunday, December 10 at 12 PM.

Members of our community will gather to express their anxiety and grief while living in a period of climate crisis. We will also host a potluck so we can eat while we translate our emotional despair into powerful acts of hope! The theme for this gathering is "gratitude."

The gathering takes place in Turnsol Books (1664 Broadway Blvd) from 12-2:30 PM. We thank our allied collectives of Turnsol Books and Cauldron Collective for letting us this space.

This first gathering will include a potluck and facilitated discussion organized with the curriculum of Joanna Macy and Molly Young Brown’s “Coming Back to Life: The Updated Guide to the Work that Reconnects.” Three facilitated group exercises will walk us through the process of being grateful for our lives, our community, and our planet that gives us so much life.

We believe these climate grief gatherings not only build deep relationships with members amongst our local community but can also train folks to manage and live with the feelings they are experiencing related to climate grief. Both of these outcomes increase our ability to provide mutual aid amongst each other and use that mutual aid to achieve abolition in multiple areas of our lives.

The only way out of this crisis is by moving with hope and taking collective action to build power. In order to do that, we have to learn as a community to address our feelings of anxiety and despair. Can you be there?

Parking for the event can be found behind the building on Washington Street or 17th Street. We are asking folks to bring a dish, snack, or drink for a community potluck. We are also asking folks to bring 1-2 chairs that is comfortable for them to sit in.

Masking is optional and masks will be provided for those concerned about COVID-19. If you need more safety accommodations, please let us know after you RSVP!
